New ideas for a changing world

To demonstrate Peugeot’s design approach towards meeting the variety of future customer demands, two new ‘SW’ concept cars will be exhibited on the Peugeot stand at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September. The first is derived from the recently launched 307, while the second is based on the highly successful 206, of which 2 million have now been built.

307 SW

When Peugeot first unveiled its new 307 to the world’s press in February this year, it broke the traditional design code of what was ‘expected’ of a mid-size, M1 sector hatchback.

Innovative in terms of structure, use of space, ergonomics and style, the 307 was derived from Peugeot’s Prométhée concept, and a further evolution of this can be seen at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The main feature of the 307 SW is a full-size panoramic glass roof (with an area of 1.33 m²), which flows from the windscreen, already the largest in its class at 1.46 m². Inside the vehicle this creates a feeling of light and space for passengers.

In the rear the seating is ‘multi-adjustable’. The three individual seats can be moved forwards and backwards, and feature a reclining seat back. Each one can be removed, and they are interchangeable, enabling modification to the layout to suit each journey.

307 SW features a wheelbase that is 10cm longer than the 307 saloon, and the body is 11cm longer and 2cm higher to provide even more interior space and comfort.

The exterior of the 307 SW on show also features roof bars, and is finished in pearlescent grey.

206 SW

The 206 SW draws strongly on the design cues of its larger stablemate, the 307 SW, and indicates a possible new body profile for this highly successful model.

Featuring front and rear sports skirts, a double exhaust, light alloy wheels fitted with 17" tyres, aluminium effect roof bars and GT-style fuel filler cap, the 206 SW looks built for performance and style.

Yet practicality and versatility aren’t far behind, and are most in evidence with the separate rear screen, which can be opened independently of the tailgate.

The engine in this concept car is a 2 litre, four cylinder, 16 valve unit, developing a power output of 133 kW (180 bhp).

Internally the car features two front sports seats, while the rear seats are also ‘sculpted’, and split two thirds/one third.

The 206 SW measures 4.03m in length, and has a wheelbase of 2.44m. It is 1.67m wide and 1.43m high.
