The Peugeot 406 was available as either a saloon, estate or Pininfarina designed coupé. The Peugeot 406 replaced the very popular Peugeot 405. It also introduced for the first time a multi-link rear suspension to replace the well trusted torsion bar system previously used on Peugeot models. The 406 Estate was also available in a seven seat version. The 406 coupé is the best selling coupe model produced by the Marque to date. It also initiated the current trend towards diesel engine powered coupés.
